Maus tells the story of Vladek Spiegelman, a Polish Jewish man who survived the Holocaust, as recounted to his son, cartoonist Art Spiegelman.
The story moves between Vladek's experiences in Nazi-occupied Europe—including the ghettos, hiding, deportation, concentration camps, and Auschwitz—and Art's attempts decades later to understand and document his father's experiences.
But Maus is more than a Holocaust survival story.
It is also the story of a father and son trying to understand one another.
